PRODUCT CHALLENGE
Customers needed an improved product experience for exploring, finding, and buying fonts on Adobe.com. They could not:
- search for fonts using keywords
- browse using an organized set of attributes
- see in real-time their own text using a font and then buy that font
- experience any promoted or highlighted fonts
ROLE
Product Owner and UX Lead
SOLUTION
I solved these problems by leading a small agile team to design and build Adobe's first 'Font Finder' product. This experience delivered:
- an elegant UX with a metadata-driven Java backend built to scale
- keyword search and attribute based browse navigation
- promotional capabilities to highlight fonts and special groupings
- the ability for customers to see their own text using any font
- seamless e-commerce
OUTCOME
The new experience was a success, and brought these benefits:
- increased revenue by 25% within first five months of launch
- improved customer satisfaction and font creator satisfaction
- reinstated Adobe's brand prestige for being a premier font foundry
- paved the way for the 2009 collaboration, and 2011 acquisition, of Typekit
